About The Blueprint
After the positive anticipation of the first Malaysia AI Adoption Blueprint 2019, we will be rolling out the next edition, Malaysia AI Adoption Blueprint 2020.
Last year, our finding showed that telco, media & entertainment, and aviation are the most mature industries in adopting big data analytics and also the most AI-mature industries. However, considering the rapid change of technology adoption and disruption, would the mentioned industries stay the champion podium?
To visionary 2020 nation, Disruptive Tech Institute and BIGIT’s data strategy team has conducted a neutral study across critical industries, in the spectrum of people, process, technology, and data. To dive deeper into what seems to evolve over 2019, and what likely is about to change, again.
1.0 executive summary
Malaysia is Systematic in its big data analytics maturity
Malaysia is at Level 3 (Systematic) in its adoption of big data analytics (BDA). Organizations are applying artificial intelligence in a variety of industry- and government-specific projects to forecast the future. Business units are making sure their BDA initiatives secure recurring budgets. Malaysian organizations are also actively upskilling internal staff or recruiting to acquire data science and data engineering competencies.
Industries with the highest BDA and AI maturity: Telcos, media, aviation, and financial services
Sectors in Malaysia with the highest BDA and AI maturity include telcos, media and entertainment, aviation, and financial services. It is hardly surprising given the intense competition in their re-spective space. These industries are early adopters of BDA / AI and are actively experimenting and deploying high-value analytics that will integrate into their business processes.
Descriptive analytics still dominates analytics projects
In Malaysia, descriptive analytics still dominates projects. It is the most basic form of BDA and is considered the starting point of an organization’s analytics journey. Descriptive analytics delivers a summary of what has happened by exploiting historical data.
Malaysian organizations are actively forecasting the future
Malaysia’s AI maturity is at Level 2 (out of 3 levels), giving the country an “AI Knight” ranking. Over-all, organizations are applying machine learning – primarily statistical learning – in a variety of business cases to predict future outcomes. These organizations are also appearing to develop AI-driven products and solutions based on successful proofs-of-concept (POC).
